White Dental Fillings

Dr. Coates uses color matched white fillings to restore teeth, fill cavities or a chipped tooth, and to replace old amalgam silver fillings. Color matched white, composite fillings can cosmetically blend with the other teeth much better than metal fillings, and they also offer a number of health-related benefits. White fillings form a stronger bond with the other tooth structure than amalgam silver do, which helps to prevent the repaired tooth to break or crack. Additionally, composite white fillings are not as temperature-sensitive as metal, so they do not expand as much with heat which helps avoid cracking of the tooth over time. Dr. Coates uses composite fillings not only to correct cavities in damaged teeth; he can also replace your old metal fillings for a whiter, healthier smile. The old material is simply removed and the white composite is sculpted into place. The material is then hardened with a special curing light.

The Cost

White composite fillings are relatively inexpensive. Depending on your dental insurance, 50-80% of the cost can be covered by dental insurance.

The Amount of Time Involved

In most cased, only one appointment is needed. Depending on the number of composite fillings required, the appointment may last 30 minutes to two hours.

Expected Lifetime

White composite fillings generally last 8-12 years or more.
